Keeping our neighborhoods safe must be the top priority of city government. That is why I pledge to work collaboratively with the County of San Diego to increase the number of deputies servings Imperial Beach with a focus on community policing.

The safety of our parks, beaches, streets and neighborhoods hinges on a partnership between law enforcement and our community, which is why I will focus on creating stronger bonds between our residents and our deputies.

City Hall must put neighborhoods first by fixing our streets. Every neighborhood deserves smooth roads that have proper lighting, striping, crosswalks and parking.  I share the same concerns as many of my neighbors that in the lack of these basics, creates an unsafe environment for many – especially our children and seniors – to simply cross the street.

We can do better. I will work closely with county, state and federal governments to ensure Imperial Beach receives its fair share of funding to meet our most pressing infrastructure needs.

Imperial Beach is full of smart, talented, hardworking people who deserve the opportunity to buy a home in the community they love. With home prices climbing to record highs, it’s become more important than ever for our city to attract good-paying jobs and give residents – especially our children and grandchildren – the opportunity to succeed.

Through partnerships with our regional school systems, universities and businesses, we can shape our economy and our children’s future for the better.

Imperial Beach is the most affordable beach community in the greater San Diego region yet prices are still out of reach for many of our residents. I will work with developers to encourage them to build smaller residential units that people can actually afford and create mixed-used projects that stick to our community plans and add much-needed housing supply.

Clean air, water and environment are key to our quality of life. Many of us choose to live in Imperial Beach precisely because we are so close to the ocean and love swimming, surfing and spending time with our families at the beach.

We must do everything we can to fiercely protect our waterfront which is why we must demand that sewage spills from south of our border stop impacting our way of life. I will work with officials on both sides of the border to find solutions that will keep our community safe from pollution.

Imperial Beach is a proud military town. The veterans and service members who call our city home deserve the support of City Hall. I have been an advocate for the military and veterans for more than 20 years and I have no plans of stopping any time soon.

I will continue to fight for these brave men and women to have access to VA benefits, affordable housing and jobs.
